ELD Switch 101: A series on switching from AOBRD to ELD

09.6.2019 - 11:51 AM Comments: 0

Welcome to UTECH’s ELD Switch 101, where we’ll spend the next five weeks explaining how to efficiently switch from AOBRD to ELD and how the changes can affect drivers, dispatchers, and companies as a whole. The ELD mandate takes full effect on Dec. 16, 2019, so the sooner you start preparing, the better.

First of all, we know the switch is not easy. While companies can literally switch with the tap of a button, that does not account for all the new training that drivers and dispatchers will need to continue being compliant and using ELDs efficiently.

We’ll be diving deep into the intricacies of switching, the differences between the two devices, and how each actually works. Throughout this five-week span kicking off on Sep. 13, we’ll be posting a weekly article covering the aforementioned topics concerning the switch from AOBRD to ELD. Here is a timeline of that:

  • 9/13-- How to check if your ELD provider is FMCSA compliant
  • 9/20-- Difference in start-up speed (AOBRD 25 mph vs. ELD 5 mph)
  • 9/27-- What is recorded and transmitted with each
  • 10/4-- How each can affect roadside inspections
  • 10/11-- What to watch out for as a trucking company

These topics will be extremely necessary for those in the industry to understand, but if you have any topics you’d like us to cover or questions on anything related to switching, you can let us know in the comments below or on social media!

Because we’d love to hear from those in the industry, we’ll also be doing a $25 Starbucks card giveaway along with the series of posts. To enter, all you have to do is comment on any of the five posts or on social media! The winner will be chosen at the conclusion of the series on Oct. 11.

Additionally, if you’d like to get a head start with the topics, we’ve also covered a multitude of other ELD-related issues since the mandate was first proposed,  which can be found in the “News” section of our website.
