When driving long distances on the road, you probably see plenty of fast food restaurants along the way. Do you ever stop by a McDonalds, Burger King, or Taco bell?

Not only are most fast food options full of empty calories, they also lead to health conditions and sleepiness, something you don’t need when you are driving. When you’re sleepy, you tend to reach for poor choices as well. Think of it as the feeling you get after you eat a delicious Thanksgiving meal.

Here are 10 quick, healthy snacks, that you can grab on the go. They don’t require cooking, nor do they require a freezer to stay fresh. If you choose one of these snacks on your next drive, you might just see the difference in how you feel almost immediately.

1. Fruit with Nut Butter

Try the classic snack: apples and peanut butter. Peanut butter has about 8 grams of protein per serving, which is ideal for a snack. Almond butter is a great alternative as well. Just make sure you search for little to no sugar so you don’t crash.

2. Vegetables with Hummus

Similarly, hummus and vegetables easily go together as well. Hummus is full of protein, heart-healthy fats, and plenty of dietary fiber. Try placing hummus in the bottom of your mug and stick the vegetables standing up inside the mug.

3. Hard Boiled Eggs

Hard-boiled eggs are an excellent source of protein and also easy to eat while driving. One egg has approximately 5 grams of protein, and only 70 calories. Not to mention how easy they are to make at home.

4. Nuts

Nuts are an easy snack, but do be sure to eat them in moderation. A healthy serving size is just 12 nuts, but provides healthy omega-9 fatty acids that you need. Almonds, walnuts, and pistachios are great options the next time you need a snack.

5. Trail Mix

Just like above, trail mix is an alternative to just a handful of nuts. Trail mix consists of nuts, granola, and dried fruits, which you can make at home or find at the grocery stores. Make sure that you choose a mix that is all natural and lightly salted.

6. Wraps

Try a sandwich in a snack form: the wrap. Roll deli meats, cheese, and veggies, for the perfect snack. If you are vegetarian, no worries. Fill a mini pita with veggies for a healthy option.

7. Jerky

If you are on the road, then you’ll probably have to make a stop or two along the way. A common, healthy option in gas stations or stores along the way is beef or turkey jerky. Look for low-sodium, all-natural brands, and you will be good to go.

8. Portable Tuna

Another portable option is a tuna pouch, when can be easily consumed while you are driving. In fact, you don’t even need to drain out water, and each pouch contains 16 grams of protein. Healthy Omegas will also help reduce coronary heart disease too.

9. Cheese Plate

Try cutting up cheese or grabbing a string cheese. Throw it in a bowl, mix it up with nuts and fruit, and you have yourself a mini cheese plate. This is a quick, healthy snack, perfect for when you need to go.

10. Yogurt with Granola

If you are looking for a fast protein fix, choose a cup of greek yogurt, which has about 17 grams of protein in each serving. If you need to mix it up, add a little granola or some frozen berries, like strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries.
