5 Truck Drivers Who Are the Heroes of 2017
Let’s face it:
The United States relies on truck drivers to safely deliver products and commodities. Without these truck drivers, then stores would run out of merchandise, food and water shortages would increase, trash would pile up, and our entire way of life would come to a halt.
So, we are giving credit to 5 truck drivers who became instant heroes of 2017. And as there are many more truck drivers with similar stories out there, make sure to thank the next truck driver you meet.
1. Cody Johnson - Alpine, CA
When Hurricane Harvey hit southern Texas, Cody Johnson started collecting donations from his community to personally drive to Houston and deliver the much-needed supplies. He also asked people to write heartfelt messages on the boxes, as to provide encouragement and support to those in need.
2. David Webb - Billings, MT
Out on the road for a job, David Webb spotted a dump truck swerving in the next lane and that the driver was slumped over the steering wheel. So, Webb acted quickly to park his truck, run after the dump truck, and hop on to apply the brakes. He was able to pull the unconscious man from the vehicle and perform CPR, which ended up saving the man’s life.
On top of this good-feel story, Webb and the dump truck driver are now good friends.
3. Tim Freiburger - Huntington, IN
When Tim Freiburger was driving his truck, he saw a vehicle lose control and slide off the road into a creek. When it finally came to a stop, the vehicle was upside down in the water, with a mother and three children locked inside. Freiburger was able to pull over, run to the car, break a window, and rescue all four passengers stuck inside.
4. Ben Fiorenza - Freeland, MI
One wintery morning, Ben Fiorenza risked his own life when he narrowly avoided a direct hit with a school bus full of children. The bus driver had pulled out directly in front of the truck driver, without seeing his vehicle. When Fiorenza, saw this play out, he decided to drive his own truck into a ditch so that he would not hit the bus. Fiorenza was treated for minor injuries, but is ok now. His quick thinking helped save so many lives.
5. Barry Williams - Moundville, AL
Last but not least, Barry Williams was driving his rig one afternoon when he saw another truck pass him and striked a vehicle. The car went airborne off the road into a creek. With quick thinking, Williams jumped from the side rail into the water to pull the car’s door open. He was able to pull the woman out with help from another man, and brought her to the emergency response team.
