ELD Violations Won’t Affect CSA Scores For Now…
Or at least not until April 1, 2018.
Strict Regulations
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has stated that truckers without ELDs after December 18, 2017, will not be out of service until April 1, 2018.
However, they will be cited and fined, which will continue if they continually violate the rule.
It should also be noted that inspectors will issue citations at their discretion while the ELD mandate takes place.
No Effect On the Safety Measurement System
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), drivers without ELDs or FMCSA-compliant AOBRDs after the compliance deadline will be cited.
This will also not affect the Safety Measurement System (SMS) ranking.
For AOBRDs to be compliant or grandfathered, they will need to be used before the ELD rule implementation date. By December 16, 2019, only ELDs that meet the FMCSA requirements will be deemed compliant.
