What to Know About the ELD Transition

12.14.2017 - 6:11 PM Comments: 0

As you are probably aware, the Electronic Logging Devices mandate will go into effect on December 17, 2017. With just a short time left for you to prepare, the real question it comes down to is:

Are you prepared?

Don’t worry if you aren’t. We have some information to help you out, as the FMCSA plans to implement the ELD mandate in such a way that “improves safety without impeding commerce.” Therefore, after receiving feedback from the public, the government agency came up with a plan to ensure a smooth and comfortable transition.

Agriculture Trucking Industry

First, the agency will issue a 90-day waiver to the agricultural industry, and more specifically, for those who transport livestock.

In addition to the agriculture exemptions that are unique to that industry, this special guidance protocol helps with the hours-of-service problems.

Guidance for ELD Questions

Second, the FMCSA will have a proper plan in place for Personal Conveyance and electronic logging devices. This is to ensure consistency amongst the trucking industry, and answer questions in regard to hours-of-service rules for other industries beyond agriculture.

Further Details

Lastly, the FMCSA has also announced that violations received during December 18, 2017, and April 1, 2018, will not affect a trucking carrier’s Safety Measurement System scores.
